Uber Expands Driverless Options Through Partnership with Cruise
Uber has recently entered into a new collaboration with the robotaxi service, Cruise, enabling users to access driverless ride options directly from the Uber application. This initiative is expected to roll out next year, allowing riders on eligible trips to opt for an autonomous vehicle from Cruise. The two organizations unveiled their “multiyear strategic partnership” on Thursday, signaling a significant step in the realm of automated transportation.
Strengthening Autonomous Transportation Alliances
This partnership comes in addition to Uber’s ongoing collaborations within the self-driving sector. Earlier this year, they forged an alliance with Waymo for providing riderless journeys and secured a long-term agreement with Aurora for their autonomous truck operations. In contrast, Motional had previously provided its own robotic taxi experiences before pausing its deployment efforts back in May of this year due to a shift toward technological development priorities.
The Future of Robotaxis with Tesla’s Upcoming Reveal
As developments accelerate in self-driving technologies, anticipation is building around Tesla’s imminent announcement regarding its own robotaxi initiatives. Originally scheduled earlier this month, Elon Musk’s showcase has been rescheduled for October 10th.
