The year 2024 has introduced the new Samsung Galaxy Ring and the eagerly anticipated Oura Ring 4. However, a recent report indicates that tech powerhouse Apple is not planning to enter this market anytime soon.
For years, speculation and patents regarding an Apple Ring have circulated, fueled by the rising popularity of discreet fitness trackers. This segment of the industry presents a compelling opportunity.
Nevertheless, renowned Apple analyst Mark Gurman asserts that there are currently no active developments for an Apple Ring and no plans to initiate such a project in the near future.
In his subscription-based newsletter, Power On, Gurman stated that “Apple isn’t actively developing a ring and has no plans to launch one.”
Apple is focusing on wrist-based fitness solutions for now
As Gurman points out, launching an Apple Ring “would detract from the Apple Watch.” He emphasizes that there’s “no reason to cannibalize a product that still has potential for growth and is highly regarded in the fitness-tracking sector.”
While both Samsung’s Galaxy Ring and Oura Ring 4 boast impressive features, they do not significantly surpass what is already offered by the Apple Watch. A ring may offer more subtlety compared to leading smartwatches; however, it serves as an additional accessory for most users who likely already wear some form of watch.
The pricing of both Samsung’s Galaxy Ring and Oura Ring 4 aligns closely with that of the Apple Watch Series 10. Yet, Apple’s offering provides a richer experience through its touchscreen interface along with capabilities like music playback and communication features including calls and messages.
