Francesca Wexler – I Dreamt I Found a Red Ruby
Occasionally, the recommendations algorithm gets it right. Just last month, while browsing through my Instagram feed, I stumbled upon an eye-catching Reel from Francesca Wexler. Her mesmerizing flow and unique style instantly drew me in. Although it’s challenging to categorize her music into one genre, it predominantly falls under the alternative hip-hop category; she has even referred to her artistry as “psychedelic rap.”
The tracks on Wexler’s latest album, I Dreamt I Found a Red Ruby, possess an almost surreal essence that is particularly evident in songs like “Heaven on Earth” and “Moonwalking,” which frame the album beautifully. Meanwhile, the lively track “Ain’t I” radiates positivity reminiscent of a bright summer day. However, the album doesn’t shy away from darker themes either; pieces such as “Amphetamine Man” highlight Wexler’s multifaceted talent as a lyricist and rapper. With I Dreamt I Found a Red Ruby, it’s clear that Francesca Wexler is an artist worthy of attention.
Orville Peck – Stampede
Orville Peck quickly followed up his May release of Stampede: Volume 1 with a full-length duets album just last Friday. Despite it only being days since its launch, I’m already convinced this will be on high rotation in my listening history for quite some time.
Stampede features collaborations with both legendary country musicians and emerging talents alike across its tracks, providing listeners with diverse styles within the country genre. Beyond the standouts mentioned previously from Volume 1, new gems like “Back At Your Door” featuring Debbii Dawson and “Papa Was A Rodeo” featuring Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway further showcase Peck’s extensive range—including comedic flair in tracks such as “You’re an Asshole, I Can’t Stand You (and I Want a Divorce)” featuring Margo Price.
A Noteworthy Find: Street Cleaner
Lately, I’ve been scouting for music reminiscent of ’80s horror/thriller soundtracks when Reddit led me to Street Cleaner—an impressive discovery! Described on Bandcamp as a ”theatrical twist on grime-infused synth sounds,” Street Cleaner’s music has become my preferred choice for focusing during work or creative sessions.
I haven’t zeroed in on any specific songs or albums; instead, I enjoy listening to their entire discography uninterrupted—it effortlessly gets me into the right mindset. They released fresh material back in April—found here new music, which serves as excellent entry point for newcomers interested in their work. Interestingly enough, they also created a video game , which piques my curiosity to explore further!
