Neo-Nazi Groups Shift to Encrypted Messaging App Amid Telegram Concerns
A growing number of neo-Nazi factions are abandoning Telegram in favor of a lesser-known encrypted messaging application that has garnered financial backing from Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey.
According to a recent report by the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, published on Friday, numerous extremist organizations have migrated to SimpleX Chat following the arrest of Telegram’s founder, Pavel Durov, and subsequent legal actions against members of the notorious Terrorgram Collective. These groups are increasingly worried that Telegram’s privacy measures may no longer shield them from law enforcement scrutiny. The Terrorgram Collective is recognized as a neo-Nazi propaganda network advocating violence against government officials and inciting attacks on critical infrastructure while promoting racial hatred.
While the ISD refrained from explicitly naming SimpleX in their findings, they highlighted that this app markets itself with features such as “a unique burner email or phone number for each contact without any management hassle.” This description aligns with how SimpleX presents itself on its official website.
