New Android Security Features: Enhancing Device Protection
Earlier this year, Google unveiled three innovative security features designed to bolster protection for Android users. These tools—Theft Detection Lock, Offline Device Lock, and Remote Lock—are intended to provide a swift method for users to secure their devices in the event of theft, preventing unauthorized access to sensitive data. Reports from Android journalist Mishaal Rahman indicate that these features have begun appearing on devices such as the Xiaomi 14T Pro, with some Pixel users also gaining access to Remote Lock.
These three features actually appear to be rolling out globally, judging by all the replies I’ve received! https://t.co/IAj8NLcST0

The Theft Detection Lock feature activates when it detects an attempt at snatching your device. According to Google’s announcement in May, this functionality utilizes advanced AI technology capable of recognizing if someone forcibly takes your phone and attempts to flee on foot or by vehicle. In such instances, the screen will automatically lock.
In contrast, Offline Device Lock is designed to engage once a thief disconnects your phone from any internet connection. While Google’s Find My Device already allows remote locking of phones under certain conditions, the new Remote Lock feature simplifies this process significantly. Users can lock their devices without needing immediate access to their Google account credentials; instead, they only require their phone number and a brief security verification using any available device.
