The 27-year-old actress, renowned for her performances in “Kick-Ass,” “Carrie,” and “The Equalizer,” expressed her support for the Democratic candidate on social media this past Saturday.
Accompanying a photo of an “I Voted Early” sticker, Moretz articulated her reasons for voting and addressed her sexual orientation publicly for the first time. She wrote: “I voted early and I cast my vote for Kamala Harris. This election holds significant stakes.”
“As a gay woman, I advocate for legal protections that safeguard the LGBTQ+ community. We need these protections in our country to ensure access to essential care that we deserve,” she emphasized.
Moretz concluded by encouraging her over 24 million Instagram followers to participate in the electoral process.
Although she had not previously discussed her sexuality openly, it has been reported that she has been romantically linked with model Kate Harrison since 2018. In April, reports indicated that they were spotted wearing rings on their left ring fingers during a visit to Disneyland, sparking engagement rumors.
The actress was also previously involved with Brooklyn Beckham, son of fashion designer Victoria Beckham and soccer star David Beckham.
Kamal Harris has demonstrated unwavering support for LGBTQ+ rights throughout her political journey. She championed same-sex marriage legalization and officiated some of the first such ceremonies in San Francisco back in 2004 when she served as district attorney there.
During her tenure as DA, she also initiated a hate crimes unit dedicated to investigating offenses against LGBTQ+ youth. However, it’s worth noting that in 2015 as California’s Attorney General, she opposed gender-affirmation surgery requests from transgender inmates by claiming it was not “immediately necessary.”
Kamala’s running mate Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is also recognized as an ardent supporter of LGBTQ+ rights throughout his political career.
