The upcoming Google TV Streamer, designed as a rival to Apple TV 4K, is expected to be more affordable according to a pricing analysis by Dealabs.
Sources from France indicate the device may launch at around 119 euros in Europe, translating to approximately $130 / £102 / AU$202. However, its actual cost in regions like the US, UK, and Australia could align closer to $129 / £129 / AU$219.
This pricing strategy positions the Google TV Streamer as a more budget-friendly option compared to the Apple TV 4K. Currently priced between $149.99 / £149 / AU$249 for its Wi-Fi and Ethernet model—and averaging around $129 for the basic Wi-Fi version—the streamer offers a compelling alternative.
It’s important to note that this new product represents a significant jump from Google’s Chromecast with Google TV 4K, which retails for only $49/£49/AU$99.
Is More Needed from the Google TV Streamer?
Details regarding the capabilities of the Google TV Streamer remain scant; however, some design enhancements over previous Chromecast models are rumored. Notably mentioned are features like an Ethernet port and Threads radio. Yet preliminary specifications suggest that it may not support advanced Wi-Fi standards such as Wi-Fi 6 or 7.
This revelation could explain why Google is pricing this device below its Apple counterpart since Apple TVs feature support for cutting-edge Wi-Fi technology. Conversely, including both an Ethernet port—which is usually an additional cost for users of Apple devices—and a USB port can potentially improve connection speeds despite lacking newer wireless technology.
Although priced higher than Chromecast models but lower than Apple’s offerings, consumers can hope for supplementary features that justify this increase in price—improved gaming experiences akin to those on Apple devices would be ideal along with enhanced app navigation capabilities. Furthermore, integrating smart hub functionalities compatible with other Google products would enhance user experience significantly.
Status quo indicates that knowledge about features regarding price and specifications remains primarily based on speculation at this point; we anticipate an official unveiling during an upcoming event set for Tuesday August 13th when new hardware will likely include updates like the Pixel 9 series and Pixel Watch 3.
