Urgent Action Needed to Combat HIV and AIDS in Children by 2030

A ⁣fresh report ​released today ⁢by the Global Alliance ​for Ending AIDS in Children has⁢ underscored a critical need for amplified‌ HIV services in‍ nations most severely impacted by the epidemic. Although there have been strides in reducing HIV infections and fatalities linked to AIDS among minors, achieving the goal of eradicating ​AIDS by 2030 demands immediate focus ⁤and action.

Significant Advances but More Work Required
The document, titled Transforming Vision Into Reality, highlights that⁤ since the‌ turn of the millennium, initiatives aimed at preventing vertical transmission of HIV have successfully prevented ​approximately 4 million infections among children aged between 0-14 ⁢years. On a global scale, new cases of HIV ‌infection⁢ in this age bracket⁣ have decreased by around 38% since 2015, while deaths attributed to AIDS have experienced ‌a significant reduction of about 43%.

Countries Leading the Fight Against Vertical Transmission
Among twelve nations involved with the Global Alliance, several flaunt exceptional coverage ‍rates for lifelong antiretroviral therapy targeted at pregnant women living with HIV. ⁤For instance, Uganda is close‌ to achieving total ⁤coverage (nearly 100%), followed closely by Tanzania at a‍ remarkable rate of 98%, and South Africa at an impressive level of ⁣around ​97%. ⁣Mozambique ‍stands firm‌ at a coverage rate of about 90%, with Zambia also hitting this milestone.
