In connection with the untimely death of Liam Payne, former member of One Direction, Argentinian authorities have filed charges against three individuals. This announcement was made by prosecutors on Thursday.
The incident occurred on October 16 when the 31-year-old singer fell from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires. Following this tragic event, Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office released information indicating that the suspects face charges for “abandonment of a person followed by death,” as well as for “supplying and facilitating narcotics.”
While the identities of those charged have not been disclosed publicly by officials, it has been confirmed that one suspect is employed at the hotel where Payne was staying and another is believed to be involved in drug trafficking.
Toxicology reports revealed that substances found in Payne’s system included alcohol, cocaine, and an antidepressant prescribed to him. His remains were returned to his father last week for burial arrangements.
Representatives for Liam Payne did not provide immediate comments when approached by Business Insider regarding this matter.
Liam gained fame as part of One Direction—a British boy band formed by Simon Cowell in 2010—which announced an indefinite hiatus back in 2015. The surviving members expressed their sorrow through social media: “We are heartbroken over Liam’s passing. In due time we will share more thoughts but right now we need space to mourn our beloved brother,” they stated last month through an official joint message.
