Artificial Intelligence (AI) is making its presence felt in various sectors, from email applications to fast food chains. Amazon is eager to join the AI movement with its innovative bot named Rufus. This tool can assist users by answering queries, researching products, and guiding them in making informed purchasing decisions on Amazon.
Whether you’re searching for a gift for a loved one or need to compare two items, Rufus is here to help. From checking your current orders to providing insights on potential purchases, this AI assistant has you covered—here’s how you can access it.
Understanding Rufus: Functionality and Access
If you’ve interacted with AI chatbots like ChatGPT or Gemini before, you’ll find that Rufus operates similarly. It has been trained using “Amazon’s vast product database, customer feedback, community questions and answers, along with information sourced from the internet,” allowing it to analyze data and generate concise responses tailored to your inquiries.
Unlike simple information retrieval systems that merely copy text from sources, these bots are engineered to produce unique responses. However, as with any AI model, errors can occur. Amazon acknowledges that Rufus ”may not always provide accurate information,” so it’s advisable to verify critical details independently—avoid sharing sensitive personal data as well.
To find Rufus while using the Amazon Shopping app on either Android or iOS, look for the icon resembling two blobs accompanied by a star located at the bottom right of the navigation bar: tap it to open a chat interface where you can start posing questions. If you’re browsing through the Amazon website, locate the Rufus button positioned at the top left side of your toolbar.
Upon accessing Rufus, you’ll receive prompt suggestions related to recent searches or purchases made on Amazon. You can select any suggestion or type in your own query for immediate assistance from Rufus.
After each interaction with Rufus, you’re encouraged to ask follow-up questions since it retains conversation history for context. Additionally, you have options available for rating responses (using thumbs up or down). While clearing chat history is possible within the app by tapping three dots (top right), this feature isn’t available on web browsers; instead choose Manage chat , followed by Clear chat history .
