Apple’s newly introduced Clean Up feature, currently accessible through the iOS 18.1 developer beta, utilizes advanced Apple Intelligence technology to erase unwanted elements from photographs.
It’s important to remember that this feature is still in its “developer beta” stage. Experimenting with any beta version of iOS is not advised without first performing a backup on your iPhone. Users are engaging with a preliminary version that allows them early insight into features set to launch officially later this year.
With those considerations in mind, I decided to evaluate Apple’s Clean Up tool against similar offerings like Google Magic Eraser and Samsung Galaxy AI. For my comparison, I’ll be testing on three devices: Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Max (using Clean Up), Google Pixel 9 Pro XL (featuring Magic Eraser), and Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra equipped with Galaxy AI.

Comparative Review: Apple Clean Up vs. Magic Eraser vs. Galaxy AI
The selection for my review included three distinct images featuring varying degrees of complexity regarding object removal—specifically categorized as easy, moderate, and challenging levels.
Simplistic Case
The initial image taken in Grenada displays a couple enjoying their time on the stunning beach – they will be our subjects for removal.
This scenario presents minimal challenges for object-detection software due to its uniform background and lack of overlapping shadows along with excellent lighting conditions.
Moderate Challenge
The focus shifts now to a photograph featuring a red vehicle parked prominently; it will face exclusion from the scene.
