Volkswagen Introduces Enhanced AI Voice Assistant in Vehicles
Starting September 6th, Volkswagen has revealed plans to deploy its upgraded voice assistant, known as IDA. This sophisticated system will leverage both local processing and cloud-based capabilities, utilizing ChatGPT among other AI models for responses. The initial rollout will include the 2025 Jetta and Jetta GLI alongside the 82kWh variant of the 2024 ID.4, with additional models expected to adopt this feature by year’s end.
Subscription Requirement for Advanced Features
To access the ChatGPT functionality integrated within their vehicles, owners of participating models must subscribe to VW’s Plus Speech with AI service. As per the company’s roadmap, a significant number of its 2025 line-up will incorporate these innovative voice assistance capabilities; featured models include ID.4 and ID Buzz—which beneficiaries receive complimentary access for three years—as well as GTI, Golf R, and Tiguan owners who enjoy one year at no cost.
Furthermore, it is anticipated that drivers of Jetta, Jetta GLI, and Taos variants will also receive upgrades in due course.
