Sony’s Long-Awaited Multiplayer Shooter: Concord
The highly anticipated live-service multiplayer shooter, Concord, has been in the works for nearly eight years. This insight was shared by Jon Weisnewski, the lead character designer for Concord, in a recent post on X (previously Twitter). He mentioned that he joined Firewalk Studios when they had already dedicated five years to developing this title (as reported by IGN).
“The game has taken about eight years to come to fruition, and I’ve been part of it for almost five of those,” said Weisnewski. He expressed excitement about Launch Day, noting how rare such occasions are in the gaming industry. “It’s a special day filled with significance; please send positive vibes our way,” he added.
Concord is currently accessible on PlayStation 5 and PC for players who purchased the Digital Deluxe Edition, while general availability will commence upon its official release tomorrow, August 30, 2024.
The Future Looks Bright for Firewalk Studios
“This is only the start,” emphasized Weisnewski as he hinted at a bright future ahead for Firewalk Studios. “Concord brims with human elements and emotional depth. My earnest hope is that players explore what we’ve created. I’m incredibly proud of this game and our commitment to evolving it over many years.”
No Battle Pass? A Unique Approach to Monetization!
A unique feature of Concord, unlike many other live-service shooters on the market today, is its lack of a Battle Pass system. The team at Firewalk aimed instead to concentrate on delivering an enriched gaming experience right from day one—where playing regularly rewards users through character progression and fulfilling specific missions that generate substantial rewards.
Additively, while there won’t be any Battle Passes involved, players can expect microtransactions featuring downloadable content (DLC), enabling them to acquire optional cosmetic items such as character skins.
A Promising Road Ahead After Launch
The studio also plans ongoing free content updates after launch that will introduce new characters known as Freegunners as well as additional maps along with consistent seasonal updates.
