Residents of a San Francisco apartment complex adjacent to a Waymo parking facility are still enduring disruptive nighttime beeping. This comes despite the company’s recent attempt to mitigate the problem of cars honking within their lot, which has since uncovered a more complex issue.
According to Waymo, the persistent honking stems from an operational safety mechanism that activates when one of their vehicles senses another automobile reversing towards it. Sophia Tung, who is known for her live-streaming coverage of activities at the parking lot on YouTube, informed The Verge via email that following Waymo’s intervention, numerous automated vehicles mistakenly veered out of the parking area and into an adjoining cul-de-sac near her residence.
