The existing regulation prohibits bringing liquid, gel, or aerosol containers exceeding 3.4 ounces (100 ml) through security checkpoints. This guideline, known as the “<a href="https://www.tsa.gov/travel/frequently-asked-questions/what-3-1-1-liquids-rule" data-component="link" data-source="inlineLink" data-type="externalLink" data-ordinal="2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">3–1–1 rule</a>,” originated from a foiled terrorist plot in 2006 where liquid explosives were nearly brought onto <a href="https://localnewspatch.com/mary-cleave-the-first-woman-to-fly-on-nasas-space-shuttle-after-challenger-disaster-dies-at-76/" title="Mary Cleave, the first woman to fly on NASA’s space shuttle after Challenger disaster, dies at 76" target="_blank" rel="noopener">flights</a> in the U.K. Initially intended as a temporary measure, these <a href="https://localnewspatch.com/meta-sues-ftc-to-block-tough-new-restrictions-on-kids-data/" title="Meta sues FTC to block tough new restrictions on kids’ data" target="_blank" rel="noopener">restrictions</a> continue to stand nearly two decades later.</p><h2>Changes Across the Pond: U.K.’s New Scanning Technology</h2><p>Recent developments abroad may have sparked speculation about similar shifts in U.S. policies. In 2022, UK airports began implementing advanced scanner technology capable of detecting various types of liquids more effectively, which allowed passengers to carry larger quantities—up to two liters—in appropriately sized vessels. This innovation was driven by Computed Tomography (CT) units and was first adopted at select locations including London City Airport. Early adopters enjoyed competitive benefits, especially given that traditional British airport restrictions often required travelers to confine all liquids into a clear quart-sized bag.</p><p>However, many larger airports struggled to comply with imposed deadlines for these upgrades. To compound frustrations for frequent flyers, an unexpected announcement emerged in June from UK officials stipulating that every airport must maintain the current ceiling of 100 milliliters for liquid containers regardless of technological advancements.</p><h2>The EU’s Similar Approach and Restrictions Elsewhere</h2><p>The situation mirrors developments within Europe as well; despite Germany, Ireland, Italy and others having introduced scanning technologies resembling those used in the UK’s early trials last week they too reaffirmed their commitment to keeping strict adherence to the <a href="https://localnewspatch.com/understanding-consciousness-and-self-identity/" title="Unlocking Consciousness: Exploring 'Then I Am Myself the World" target="_blank" rel="noopener">existing limitations</a> on liquid sizes onboard flights.</p><p>This has led many hopeful travelers to ponder whether this is merely a temporary holdup for Europe while it assesses new technologies—and what it means for other regions like North America.</p><h2>No Immediate Change Foreseen Yet in America’s Airports</h2><p>A spokesperson from TSA confirmed that although Computed Tomography systems are gradually being implemented across various screening lanes—a total reaching around 430 airports collectively managing close to 2000 screening areas—it may take substantially longer before any alterations can be made regarding liquid regulations here:</p><p>“The USDA is still working towards operationalizing CT machines nationwide,” they noted <em>(Travel + Leisure)</em>. “Realistically speaking though—we anticipate it won’t be before 2040 when we see full deployment.” Yes—2040 is indeed correct.’</p><p></p><div style=)
