In the previous year, a significant development occurred in the automotive sector. Just when it seemed that manufacturers outside of Tesla were converging on a universally accepted charging standard, there was a sudden shift towards Tesla’s more compact and refined connector design.
However, vehicles equipped with these native ports won’t start appearing until next year, and over half of the electric vehicles currently driving on North American roads utilize the J1772 (for AC) and CCS1 (for DC) charging standards. Consequently, many EV owners may still find themselves relying on adapters stored in their trunks. Enter ChargePoint’s new Omni Port, unveiled this morning; it promises a solution to leave those adapters behind.
“With the introduction of Omni port, ChargePoint addresses the complexities associated with multiple connectors in use today,” stated Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint. “This innovation ensures that both Tesla users and owners of other brands can look forward to an exceptional charging experience. We are committed to providing customers and station operators confidence that ChargePoint will accommodate all their future charging needs.”
